Just When I Thought It Couldn't Get Any Better...

Remember when I announced that I was the newest preschool teacher at Little Madison Academy?? Well...I've been approached with a bigger and better job opportunity! I can now officially announce that I am the *newest* 4th grade teacher at Madison Academy!! Why yes, after two long years of subbing I will have my very own classroom next year! I don't think I could be happier. :)

I actually heard about the possibility of this opening the day I was announced as the preschool teacher at LMA. This was a bittersweet moment for me. On one hand, I was super excited to have a classroom and to be a "real" teacher, but on the other hand, the possibility of this 4th grade position would be amazing--I would have my own elementary classroom and that's what I really wanted. I knew I shouldn't get my hopes up though. It wasn't a for sure thing and I was going to have to wait about a week and a half to find out if this potential opening would even be an opening for next year. So...I waited...and waited...and waited. Then the day came. Mrs. Burton came to my classroom (I was subbing that day) and informed me that the teacher was indeed leaving and I would now be a 4th grade teacher!!

I'm so excited but I'm extremely nervous about having my own classroom. The thought of my own class is wonderful, but when I think about all the preparation it takes to set up a classroom (how my classroom will look, procedures, classroom management...) it's a bit overwhelming! I know I've got all summer to wrap my head around this and work in my classroom so I don't need to freak out, just yet. (It may be a different story a week before school starts.) So there ya go, my awesome opportunity just got even better! Sometimes it's funny how life turns out. :)

Strawberry Bread

I was recently given a few slices of some strawberry bread from my Grandma. A couple of days later it was all gone, (I love strawberry bread!) so I decided to make some strawberry bread of my own. I found this recipe on
This recipe makes two loafs -- one for you and one for a friend!

What you'll need:
2 cups fresh strawberries (I actually used a bit more.)
3 1/8 cups all purpose flour
2 cups white sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/4 cups vegetable oil
4 eggs, beaten
1 1/4 cups chopped pecans (optional)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease two bread pans.

Cut and dice strawberries, set them in a medium size bowl and and sprinkle with sugar. Blend oil and eggs with strawberries. (Add pecans to strawberry mixture -- if you choose.)

Combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, salt, and baking soda in a large mixing bowl. Stir together. Add strawberry mixture and mix until dry mixture is moist.

Pour into your two bread pans and bake for 50 minutes.

My Mac and a Canvas Photo Deal...

For my birthday I got some techie gifts. Charlie got me a *new* battery for my mac. This has been needed for a long time and I was so happy to be able to use my laptop again without fear of it dying! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my mac and it's been the best computer ever. I've had it for about 5 years now and I haven't had a single problem with it. The only thing that went bad was the battery...and it probably should have in 5 years time! It's been a great computer and I'm sold on all items Apple because of it.

I also finally updated my mac to the newest processing system (Lion) and it's taking a bit of getting used to. I actually really like how they've organized most of the items, but some of the scrolling/ finger swiping gestures are what I'm trying to master. They've swapped the way you scroll up and down--if you want to go down, you swipe your fingers up and down to go up. (Plus, for all you mac users, I had to change the 3 finger swipe to go back/ forward while internet browsing. I use that gesture ALL the time and I'm not sure why they changed it in Lion.)

Not only do I get all the upgrades with Lion, but I finally get iCloud on my computer! iCloud is about the best thing ever for macs. I love the fact that I never have to email myself photos or information I have on my iPhone or iPad ever again, they automatically sync together now!
I use Google Calendar for my electronic calendar, so that's never been an issue. Google Calendar is nice when Charlie and I try to keep up with everything we've both got scheduled. Plus, I'm planning on using Google Calendar for my volleyball team next year and my classroom. It's very easy to create and share calendars with people!

Now on to the canvas deal. I actually bought two canvases from this deal to put on my collage wall (which I'm still collecting items for...). I've been really happy with these canvases. You can get a free 8x10 canvas *you just have to pay for shipping* or you can get $50 off any canvas size from Canvas People. This is a great deal and a high quality canvas photos!

I hope y'all are having a great week! I'm still busy subbing (I'll finally start slowing down some next week) and thanks to the kiddos I've got a lovely head cold. Not only am I completely stopped up (yuck) but I also lost my voice yesterday! I guess it will make for an interesting rest of the week...
Scratch that. Last night I got shaky and achy, so I took my temperature before I went to bed and found that I have low grade! Hopefully I'll be able to make it back subbing by the end of the week!

Birthday Girl!

Happy 25th birthday to me! I've made it to the quarter century milestone mark.
(Yikes! That's a scary thought.)

Here's a few snapshots of me throughout the years...

A Week with the Kizers

As many of you know, my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew are missionaries in Peru. They have an opportunity to come back once a year (for a month) to come visit their family, friends, and sponsoring churches. So this year, they are here for the whole month of April! They are able to stay in Huntsville for the first and last weeks of the month, so last week Charlie and I spent much of our time outside of work with them.

We had a really busy week, we had a birthday party for Cole, a Easter egg hunt, and a picnic in the park -- where we got to feed the ducks and enormous fish! It was a great time to catch up and spend time together again.

Blowing out his candles at his party!

Helping Papa set up his new tent he got for his birthday.

Picnic in the park.

Uncle Charlie and Cole!

Having fun feeding the fish and ducks!

Super Cole!

Plus we had to make some stops at all the important places around time, such as Bridgestreet (Huntsville's outdoor mall), a couple of frozen yogurt places, and Gigi's Cupcakes!

Here's Cole shopping....he's telling me how much fun he's having with Mommy and Aunt Ashley. :)

Who can resist an Easter bunny cupcake at Gigi's?!

Can you tell who get's spoiled the most during this week?? It was a fun and busy week with the Kizers and I'm sure we'll have just as much fun if not more when they are here for the last week of their trip!

Easter Bunny Cinnamon Rolls

It's Easter weekend! This morning I made bunny cinnamon rolls for me and Charlie and I think they turned out super cute! I made them with the orange cinnamon rolls and baked them at 400 degrees for 9 minutes.

Adorable right? Charlie didn't seem as excited for some reason. (Oh he liked them, but didn't seem too impressed that they were bunnies...)

This is what they looked like before and after I cooked them. To make the bunnies, all you do have to do is unroll the cinnamon rolls and cut a small piece off the end. Then cross them and place the small piece you cut in the center of the hole for the bunny tail.

Of course they were super yummy. :) You can't go wrong with cinnamon rolls, right?

It's Official!

I now can officially say that I'll be the newest preschool teacher at Little Madison Academy! I'll be taking over one of the 3 year old classrooms in the fall. After two long years of waiting, I'll finally be able to have my own classroom!

I found out about the opening the week before spring break but I couldn't tell anyone about it until today. The school wanted to wait until everything was lined up before they told the teachers at Little MA and the elementary school. Now that all the teachers and faculty know, I can now tell everyone else about it!

Preschool isn't my ideal job, but it's definitely a step in the right direction--ideally I'd like Kindergarten, 1st or 2nd--so it's not far from it. I'll miss seeing all the "big" kids at the elementary school but I'm excited with this new opportunity to work with the kids down at the preschool. (The elementary and preschool are two different buildings.) I'll still be able to coach my volleyball team so that is a wonderful plus.

I'm glad to be officially part of the Madison Academy family and I'm happy that I won't have to leave the school. I've grown so close to many of the teachers and faculty at the elementary school, but I'm excited to work with all the ladies down at the little school. This is such a great opportunity for me and I'm really looking forward to finally having my own classroom!

The Beach and a Little Baseball...

I have been planning for the last couple of weeks to take a trip to visit two of some of my closest friends....the Denney sisters!! I've grown up with both Teresa and Tara and have always been very close with them. They both have been living in Gulf Shores for the last couple of years. Since I had the week off I decided this would be a perfect time to take a trip to visit them!

Isn't their house the cutest little beach house?

The beach was perfect! You couldn't have asked for better weather. I didn't venture into the water because I figured it was still a bit to cold. (Plus I don't like to go far into the water because I got stung once by a jellyfish.) But I enjoyed my time laying out enjoying the sun and the sand.

We had so much fun catching up and spending time together! The last night I was there we went over to one of their friends apartment to make pizzas. Their friend had a fantastic apartment and if you look in the picture you can tell she also had amazing views of the coast!

On my way back from the beach, I made a stop in Troy. My little brother, Nathan, pitches for the baseball team and they were playing a few games this weekend. I'm not the biggest fan of baseball--I think the game is long and sometimes boring--but I figured I could handle one game. So, being a good sister, I decided that I'd stop in and watch him play.

I went to two different games last year, and of course, he didn't play then, so I was hoping that "the third times the charm" and I'd finally get to see him play some. And sure enough, I was in luck! Here's Nay-Nay on the mound!

The team played pretty well, but ended up falling apart some at the end of the game and unfortunately lost. After the game, we all went to McDonald's (it's the only place open late in small town Troy) to grab something sweet and to spend some time catching up. *Excuse how tired I look was nearly midnight when we took this picture.

Whew! It was a whirlwind of a spring break and I had so much fun on my week off. Next week I continue working busily subbing, but it also kicks off the Kizer's furlough back to the states. I'm so excited to see my sister, nephew, and brother-in-law! They've started the long trek back here today and will be arriving about midday tomorrow.
